Safety is very important for building service contractors who work closely with cleaners and other disinfectants. Cleaning chemicals are now less hazardous than what they used to be, thus helping to contribute towards healthier building occupants and janitors.

Label reading, and the usage of MSDS and chemicals is very important. Inspections should be held regularly. Labeling is very important to ensuring chemical safety, since it makes sure that wrong chemicals are not being used by mistake. Wrong chemicals can ruin a customer's facility as well as sicken the building's occupants.

Storage: Proper storage of disinfectants and cleaners in closets is important for the safety of the janitors as well as that of the building occupants. All chemicals should be stored on shelves and should not be stored higher than eye-level, so that the danger of bottles falling is minimized and the labels can be read easily. Containers should be closed tightly and inspected for signs of damage like tears or holes. Find out whether the chemicals are combustible or can create a fire hazard.

Disposal: Disposing of chemicals is very important and should never be overlooked.
